What size rug for your room?
Living room, bedroom or dining room: enter your dimensions and get the standard size that fits — and the rule behind it.
The right rug size depends on the seating layout and the room's area, not the sofa alone. Rule of thumb: at least the front legs of every seat on the rug, a 60-70 cm overhang around a dining table, and a larger format in a big room so it never looks stranded.

Should the rug go under the sofa?+
Yes, at least the front legs. In a large room, aim for all legs on it: the rug anchors the zone instead of floating in front of the sofa.
What rug size under a dining table?+
The rug should extend 60-70 cm beyond each table edge so chairs stay on it even pulled out. For a 180 × 90 table, that's roughly 240 × 330 cm.
My living room is 40 m², which rug?+
The bigger the room, the bigger the rug must be to avoid looking lost. Above ~35 m², 240 × 330 or even 300 × 400 is common depending on the layout.
Round or rectangular rug?+
Rectangular follows most sofas and tables. Round softens a round table or a reading nook and breaks up a very boxy room.
